A special thank you to all those parents who drove/chaperoned us this morning! The students did a fabulous job, and without the drivers, it simply would not have been possible for us to perform. Thursday Night, Parent Night for the Drug Education Conference.... Report to the music room in full uniform at 6:15 pm for check in and warm up. Parents, please plan to attend the conference in the gym. Please note, if you respond to Dowell singers email, it will not get to Mrs. Swint immediately, as it goes to a parent. Please make sure you email Mrs. Swint directly at sandy.swint@cobbk12.org. Thanks!

Hello everyone,
As I told the students today, one of the first things I learned about the music field was... things can go wrong. And, we learn to adapt! So, sadly, our shirts were literally hot off the press today, and we could not get them into rehearsal with enough time to pass them out prior to dismissal. SO.... here comes the adaptation.
Students should see Mrs. Swint tomorrow morning (anytime after 7:30am) to pick up their shirts, check out their full uniform, and then they can change. Thank you to our parents who volunteered to help me!
For those of you in traffic, just imagine Mrs. Swint with 70 students, t-shirts, and a symphony of recorders in the background! We shall press on! Students are asked to immediately place their shirts in their backpack to take home. Thanks so much for your understanding, Mrs. Swint
As a reminder, students with outstanding balances will need to take care of those before they pick up their shirts.

Hello Parents,
Please remember to sign and send back the permission slip for this performance allowing your student to be transported by parent-driven car, not a bus. We are still in need of drivers for this event.... Tuesday, Oct. 27th from 8:15 until approximately 10:30 am.
This is a reminder that t-shirt money is due ($7). If you paid $47 at the beginning of the year, that included your t-shirt. If you are unsure, please have your student see Mrs. Swint.
T-shirts will be passed out Oct. 20th during our Tuesday practice. Please have the students wear their uniform on Wednesday (10/21), and see Mrs. Swint for uniform check. There will be no rehearsal on Wednesday (10/21). They are welcome to change out of the uniform after the check in. (This is to ensure that all students have the necessary uniform pieces prior to our first performance on Tuesday, Oct. 27th).
Rehearsal dates:
Wednesdays 10/7, 10/14
Tuesday 10/20 - pick up chorus t-shirt
Wednesdays 10/28, 11/4
Performance dates:
Tuesday, 10/27, 9am - Teacher of the Year breakfast (chaperone-driven field trip)
Thursday, 10/29, evening - Parent Night - Drug Education conference
Friday, 11/6, 8am - Veteran's Day at Dowell
Date in Nov TBA - Toys for Tots Kickoff at the state capitol

Just a reminder to our current students: please plan to report to the music room for sign ups, and then off to the cafeteria this Friday for the singathon at 2:30pm. You should wear comfortable clothes, uniforms are not needed. Everyone should plan to participate even if you do not have donations! Parents, thank you for volunteering. Please come on in, and look for the volunteers with the name badges, they will help you find a job that needs doing! All parents are most welcome to come on by after work and listen to the kids! If we have additional hot dogs, we will offer a hot dog and a drink for $1.
To our former members: I know many of your families are still reading these, and I thank you for your kind support. Please feel free to drop by Dowell this Friday to say hi during our annual singathon! I hope your music programs are going well!
See you all Friday! Mrs. Swint

DOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
2121 West Sandtown Rd.Marietta, GA 30064
Welcome
Parents/Students of the Dowell Singers 09-10
UNIFORM: Please begin to assemble a chorus uniform for your child. If you have any problems, please let me know. Each student should have a pair of plain black pants, plain dark black socks and plain black shoes. The shoes can be dressy or tennis shoes, but they should not have any writing/design on them. A plain black belt is ok, and any hair accessories should be also black. T- shirts will be ordered for students and will come in before the first performance. Please plan to pay for the t-shirt no later than Oct. 1st.
VOLUNTEERS: There are many opportunities to help the Dowell Singers. This organization is completely volunteer run, including Mrs. Swint. We DO need help with rehearsals, chaperoning, and donations. Please email Mrs. Swint at sandy.swint@cobbk12.org to indicate your interest.
COMMUNICATION: If you visit the Dowell web site and click on Mrs. Swint’s name on the staff page, you can sign up to receive automatic emails when Mrs. Swint updates the blog or go to the blog directly at http://dowell.typepad.com/swint/ All information regarding chorus is posted weekly on the blog. Notes will be sent home periodically, so be sure to ask your student for any info after rehearsals. We will also generate an email list. Please try to limit calls to the school, as I am not able to return messages promptly due to class schedule.
SINGATHON: Sept. 18th is the date – 2:30 pm until 6:00 pm. Next week your student will bring home information and a pledge log. This is the largest fundraiser the chorus does, and I guarantee the most fun anyone can have making money for a group! We welcome parents to help chaperone this event, so if you are interested, please contact me.
HONOR CHORUS: All 5th graders who participated in last year’s chorus are eligible to try out for the CCSD Honor chorus. See Mrs. Swint for an application/appointment time.
WELCOME: I am very excited about the make up of this year’s chorus. I know this is a group of outstanding students who are able to follow directions, behave appropriately, and sing their hearts out! I am sure we will have a great year.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Sept. 9th, 16h,
18th (Singathon), and Sept. 23rd, 30th.
